I know that 95% of the time they are numbered, starting to the left of the notch, around the bottom to the right of the notch. However, I have now vaped three of these chips (cheap, thankfully) on this assumption, and am beginning to believe it might be wrong. By the way, how fragile is a 7404 ? Should I count on replacing it later, due to surges and the like ? Just putting it in backwards doesn't work, by the way, that's why I'm asking about it's tolerance. :-) Email answers, I don't think the whole world is interested.
