They have UUCP running and are in the process of getting news to work. When all their equipment is installed they will have 8 dialin modems, 8 dialout modems (all at 2400) and two Trailblazers, and the budget for several hours a day of calls to uunet for a newsfeed. (So far they have one Trailblazer running; the rest of the equipment will be in by the end of May. The uunet test feed will be starting in the next few days.) Michael East (lsuc!attcan!mbeast) has been able to convince AT&T Canada management that Usenet is important enough that support of it should be a major corporate policy, and this is being done. They will also have links to AT&T in the U.S. (though I have recommended they get the news from uunet to have it as current as possible). Once everything is running smoothly, attcan will replace mnetor as the "fast feed" from uunet. We're also making plans to distribute the news around Toronto by Trailblazer as fast as possible from the central sites (e.g., from attcan to utzoo and geac). Hats off to AT&T Canada for their welcome contribution to the net. And a thank-you to Motorola (mnetor) for the gigabytes shipped over the past couple of years.
