Lines: 32 Keywords: index,simtel20 Summary: Database already started A database of the files at simtel20 has already been started and is updated monthly. The files can be found in PD1:SIMIBM.ARC. In order to make it portable to various database programs it has been created as a comma-delimited text file. A PC-File+ header file is included which defines the size and names of the various fields. PD1:FILES.IDX is a comma-delimited directory listing which is created daily. It has no descriptions but there is a field reserved for adding them. I have a Unix "awk" stript that takes the FILES.IDX and adds the descriptions from another file that looks like this: PRINTDOC.ARC Print text files on both sides of page So, if there are volunteers to provide short descriptions like that one I can merge them into the database. I could post a comma-delimited listing of the files that have no descriptions (the awk script outputs those to a second file) each month or mail them privately to those who would like to help. I think the latter approach would be best as it would save net costs. If anyone is interested I'll provide info on the format needed, with exact field sizes and spacing. The filenames must have no spaces. -- Keith Petersen Arpa: W8SDZ@SIMTEL20.ARPA Uucp: {bellcore,decwrl,harvard,lll-crg,ucbvax,uw-beaver}!simtel20.arpa!w8sdz GEnie: W8SDZ
