They also have a 4800 bps model called the 2248. Both the 2296 and 2248 support asynchronous and synchronous. I have tried the 2296, but don't have extensive experience with it yet. It does cost in the vicinity of $2000 and is quite large. I don't have any personal experience with the UDS or Cermetek V.32 modems. An important consideration for those of us who evaluate and recommend modems for our employers is what will be the marketplace standard for 9600 bps modems. My bets are on V.32, regardless of whether it is or is not technically superior to the Trailblazer or any other proprietary protocol. It has the great advantage of already being a CCITT standard. It's also full duplex. None of the others are either. The new chip sets that are coming out should result in prices for V.32 modems dropping further. I want 9600 bps modems from different manufacturers to be able to talk to each other. V.32 is the only hope that I see for that.
