You might look at the PS-Script product marketed by QMS.  It is a fairly
expensive plug-in board to a PC compatible that connects directly to an
unmodified HP Laserjet.  It provides true Adobe PostScript page output, as
well as HP Laserjet and other emulation modes together with a means to switch
between modes.
