We are running 4.3 BSD on a VAX with a Kinetics Fastpath II to talk to a single MAC on the AppleTalk network. CAP is version 4.0 with patches 5,6,7 and bugs 1-15 applied. KIP is the 9/87 version. My atalkatab looks like: 02.00 N3 1.0.0.0 COMPSERV #main ethernet 01.00 KC 1.0.0.8 COMPSERV #K-box in bullpen I1.255.255.255 I1.0.0.2 #ipbroad ipname I1.0.0.2 I1.0.0.2 #ipdebug ipfile L0 L0 L0 L0 S0 S0 #ipother unused unused LX0 S4 S2 #flags ipstatic ipdynamic S01.00 S02.00 "COMPSERV" #atneta atnete zonea and atalk.local: # mynet mynode myzone 02.00 2 COMPSERV # bridgenet bridgenode bridgeIP 02.00 220 1.0.0.8 Our lan runs as a Class A network with no subnetting since we don't talk to anyone and have only a single physical ethernet cable. I was using a broadcast of 1.0.0.0 changed that to 1.255.255.255 (and the appropriate atalkatab entries) and still have the same problems. I have had lwsrv up and running for about two months now with no problems. I did notice that when I first installed CAP, look didn't report finding any entities on the AppleTalk net: abInit: [ddp: net 2.00, node 2] starting Looking for =:=@* ... I put this on ignore for a while since all we needed was lwsrv which was working fine. I have now come back to the problem since I am trying to install the network dump programs from Dan Tappan. I am able to get the dump daemon on the Mac to find the restore daemon (macrestore) on the VAX. I can't get macdump to find =:DUMPDEV@* on the Mac. Also, atis shows macrestore as being registered but /etc/look (and looks and pinger) can't find any entities. Running atis with debugging on (-dn) I get: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- atis: Reply num max for lkup reply is 5 (based on 101) atis: pid = 61 atis: Got nbp 0 lkup from net 2.0, node 2, skt 130 atis: Register from net 2.00 node 2 skt 130 atis: for laser2spool:LaserWriter@*, net 2.00 node 2 skt 129 atis: Register return code 0 atis: Got nbp 0 lkup from net 2.0, node 2, skt 132 atis: Register from net 2.00 node 2 skt 132 atis: for laser1spool:LaserWriter@*, net 2.00 node 2 skt 131 atis: Register return code 0 atis: Got nbp 1 lkup from net 1.0, node 64, skt 254 atis: Looking for entities to answer a lookup with burns:DUMPDEV@COMPSERV atis: Got nbp 1 lkup from net 1.0, node 64, skt 254 atis: Looking for entities to answer a lookup with =:LaserWriter@COMPSERV atis: Answering lookup with 2 entities atis: Got nbp 1 lkup from net 1.0, node 64, skt 254 atis: Looking for entities to answer a lookup with laser2spool:LaserWriter@COMPSERV atis: Answering lookup with 1 entities atis: Got nbp 1 lkup from net 1.0, node 64, skt 254 atis: Register from net 2.00 node 2 skt 137 atis: for hsi:RESTORE@*, net 2.00 node 2 skt 136 atis: Register return code 0 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.
