Message-ID: <1385*kenw@noah.arc.cdn> Date: 28 Apr 88 04:13:00 GMT References: Sender: daemon@ucbvax.BERKELEY.EDU Organization: The Internet Lines: 26 I'm not sure what's wrong with your NCSA TELNET, but it sounds a little like a problem we're having with ours. After some net reconfiguration and playing around with load files (we've been testing Pacer) we now find that NCSA Telnet 2.1 works on some Macs, and not on others. Here's the kicker: the Macs on which it works have power supplies with the +5 volts at 5.0 volts or BELOW. Those with the +5 much above this point do not work - and that includes most SEs, which tend to be around 5.1. Changing net configurations doesn't seem to have much effect. Another interesting tibit is that the older versions of Telnet work fine. I suspect that the new version is sending out a very short signal (how?!?), is doing few or no retries, is using an insuffucient time delay for K-box response, or such. We have a second K-box on order, and I'm looking forward to seeing what that does. Our current one is pretty old. Does anyone know of anyone using NCSA Telnet 2.1 on a non-Kinetics gateway? Sorry, I can't remember which load file we're running right now (and it's too late to drive to work to look :-), but it's CAP-compatible. It might well e udp.srec; that or something close. /kenw A L B E R T A Ken Wallewein R E S E A R C H kenw@noah.arc.cdn C O U N C I L
