    other people have mentioned the need for control files.  however,
version 1 of UUPC implements only half of the uucp protocol, those parts
necessary for mail: master-send and slave-receive.  to "download" from
a Usenet archive, you need master-receive.  to make matters worse, UUPC
version 1 won't transfer non-text files either.
    i have modified UUPC to fix the 2 protocol problems above, and i
have a simple uucp program to create the control files.  i will talk
to the folks at van-bc about merging my code into UUPC version 2.
