On both Jet and Flight Simulator Ive had my friend dial me up.
I select "wait for ring", but then I talk directly to my modem
(using the ">" command) and give it the Hayes command "ATA" to
immediately answer the phone call when I hear it ringing.

On another friend's modem, we had to set dip switches to force DTR.
Though other software would set DTR, Jet did not.
