Message-ID: <4841@cup.portal.com> Date: 27 Apr 88 05:32:21 GMT Organization: The Portal System (TM) Lines: 28 XPortal-User-Id: 1.1001.2934 Just saw this in this week's InfoWorld (April 25): Apollo Slashes Series 4000 Pirces by 35% ........The steepest reduction was 35% for the mono system, bringing the machine down to $8,990 (diskless?); the color configuration was cut 26% to $13,990. Apollo also introduced a $3,500 floating-point accelerator board, based on Weitek's 3164 floating-point processor chip, that can boost speed by up to 300 percent. I have some questions. 1) With this price cut (bravo!), will there be a new PUB program to reflect this so we can upgrade all existing nodes to DN4000 sooner? 2) Is the 300 percent speed improvement by the new floating-point chip measured in general task or only in floating-point intensive task? From what I understand this upgrade will only be available for DN4000 series (DN30X0 use a board for FPU instead of 68881), correct me if I am wrong. Also how soon will it be available? ----------- Jinfu Chen Motorola, Inc. Arpa: Jinfu@cup.portal.com UUCP: ...sun!portal!cup.portal.com!jinfu
