Slow as sin, and no disk space, but it was cheap. To make it usable, I want to replace the disk with something bigger and faster. 30 or 40 MB feels right; no idea what kind of speed I should look for. Browsing thru the new copy of Byte, I see a Seagate ST251-1 which gives me 40 MB at 28 ms for $450-500 range. The numbers are right, but I need to know if this is a decent drive (vague recollections tell me Seagates are good to avoid). Comments? Anybody have other suggestions for drives, prices, and where might be a good place to buy the thing. What about power supplies? The display seems to bounce a bit when the disk is thrashing about. Is this a bad power supply or just the standard weak one in a 7300? Will the bigger drive require a bigger power supply? If yes, can I toss one from a 3B1 in, or are there better alternatives? -- Karl Swartz |UUCP decvax!formtek!ditka!kls 1-412/937-4930 office | {pitt,psuvax1}!idis!formtek!ditka!kls |BIX kswartz "I never let my schooling get in the way of my education."
