If you want a superfast ARC creation program that doesn't use rogue "squash" algorithms UNIX/VAX can't read, just fire up ARCA.COM by Vern Buerg and Wayne Chin. It's smaller than PKARC, just as fast and fully compatible. They make a companion extractor, ARCE.COM, which is also small and (as of recent versions) handles all known algorithms.
