Message-ID: <1059@aucs.UUCP> Date: 21 Apr 88 14:50:38 GMT Distribution: na Organization: School of Computer Science, Acadia Univ., Nova Scotia Lines: 21 A department here has a Mac and wants to prevent "unathorized" access. As it is now, anybody could walk in and turn on the machine and access the files on the hard disk. A short while ago someone posted an INIT which asks for a password when booting and although this sounds ideal, the security it appears to offer is easily bypassed by simply booting with a floppy. A long time ago when I had a Hyperdrive installed in my first Mac, I was able to create volumes with passwords. The Jasmine they have does not provide such a feature, nor do any other drives that I'm familiar with lately. They, of course, just use multiple folders (as we all do). Is there *any* way to protect folders from being opened by unauthorized users. Any info would be *greatly* appreciated. -- Peter Steele, Microcomputer Applications Analyst Acadia University, Wolfville, NS, Canada B0P1X0 (902)542-2201x121 UUCP: {uunet|watmath|utai|garfield}dalcs!aucs!Peter BITNET: Peter@Acadia Internet: Peter%Acadia.BITNET@CUNYVM.CUNY.EDU
