Currently, the largest amount of RAM that the Finder can address is still 4 Mb. This is a limitation of the SE's Memory Manager. Even though the Prodigy SE is equiped with a socket for the 68851 PMMU chip, it cannot be utilitized by the Mac's OS. The only Mac that can take advantage of the 68851 is the Mac II running A/UX. Also note that A/UX (Apple's implementation of UNIX) is Mac II specific and supports B&W (sorry no color). It was hoped that the first release of A/UX would support a 68020/68881/68851 equipped Mac SE, but it doesn't. The Prodigy SE can, however, take advantage of the Mac's motherboard RAM and utilitize it as a RAM Disk via the new firmware (ROM 3.0B) and the Prodigy RAM Disk software (v1.28). Existing owners can obtain an upgrade through Levco. For more info call Levco at (619) 457-2110. I hope this clarifies things and should anyone have any questions, either send me E-Mail or call SuperMac (415) 964-8884.
