I just got a copy of Olduvai Software's Readit! program and it can read
proportionally spaced text.  It runs on the Mac.  I've tried it on a few
small files and it seems to work okay.  I'd guess that its accuracy rate
is about 98% or better, but, as with all such software, a 1% or 2% error
rate means a lot of errors in a file with a few thousand characters.
