[[ Actually, qualified vendors CAN license the file format. Contact Microsoft for details. The key word there is qualified, though. And it doesn't include the access algorithms, just the format, so accessing stuff in "fast save" format can have performance problems. And better be ready to sign non-disclosures and all sorts of other neat stuff.
