$100 is a good price for a 2400 baud modem used, if it still works.
I've never used mousetalk.  I advise you get a copy of Kermit
which is shareware before buying any modem programs, you should know what
you want ahead of time, because after you buy its too late.
It will give you a chance to get some experience with local boards first,
there is a lot to learn about transfer protocols, make sure the prog
you buy supports the protocals you'll need.
