My most recent address for Dr. Brown (known as JCB in the biz) and the Loglan Institute: Dr. James Cooke Brown The Loglan Institute, Inc. 1701 Northeast 75th Street Gainesville, FL 32601 Loglan has been on the verge of Going Public Again (GPA) for several years now. (Let me pause to state that the TLA's (Three-Letter Acronyms) are theirs, not mine.) Dr. Brown has been out of town on vacation for some months, and when he isn't around the Institute is pretty much at a stand-still. I don't know the current plan for release, but there was a release of some materials known as NB3 (Notebook 3) last summer. There has been a good deal of disaffection in the community, largely because of the perceived lack of progress and the cost of staying in the know. Recently Bob and Nora LeChevalier 2904 Beau Lane Fairfax VA 22031 have recreated the language based on JCB's principles but without using his specific words, in order to avoid copyrights and get on with it. They've produced a flashcard program that runs on the IBM PC and teaches vocabulary for their dialect of Loglan. It's too early to guess how it will all turn out, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a lawsuit. I have the LeChevaliers' permission to post the (shareware) flashcard program to the net if there's sufficient interest. -- Jim Gillogly {hplabs,ihnp4}!sdcrdcf!randvax!jim jim@rand-unix.arpa
