Pattern recognition/analysis appears to be a pretty generic subject of 
research.  What I am interested in is its application to simple geometric
entities.  Basically theories on identifying closed paths being formed
by a collection of lines/arcs, etc.  I tried doing library searches for
these, but almost always came up with more esoteric articles dealing with
applications that I don't find relevant.  Could somebody point me in the
right direction?  I would appreciate any references to this specific problem.
