  The above procedure does not work on our machine (VMS 4.7).  The only way
we have found to get rid of those mail messages is to copy a mail.mai
file from another account (be sure the mail.mai file has the correct number
of mail messages in it; i.e. 2 messages if you have 2 Phantom messages)
into your own directory and then get into MAIL and read the messages from
that mail.mai file...
