It does require a different shell,  I have written a very simple one that uses
the ARP resident feature and has last command recall and a few other very
simple features.  It is still quite rough and untested as I threw it together
last Sunday,  but if anyone is interested in a copy let me know. Also, since
it supports ARP resident, it of course requires arp.
