I have posted 2 utilities to comp.binaries.ibm.pc.  PARKIT will park
the disk head just before you turn the machine off.  This is useful if
you will be moving it around.  TIMEPARK will park the disk-head if it
has been idle for some (user specified) period of time.

Both of these work fine on my AT but I don't know how they will do on
an XT.
