Summary: Some second hand information -- but usefull I think Keywords: Microsoft Word UNIX PC comment experience MS-DOS Message-ID: <908@gethen.UUCP> Date: 14 May 88 05:14:10 GMT References: <463@david.UUCP> Organization: There's Unix there in Oakland Lines: 17 Hey, I didn't even know Word was available other than for DOS. I have no first hand experience with Word or with its main competitor, WordPerfect, but if I were in your shoes I'd go with WordPerfect, which is also available for the Unix PC. Why: From what I've read about Word, it's a typical MS product in that it contains a lot of feature-patches and other adaptations. Which could get nasty when you're running it under the system other than the one it was designed for. People I know who've used both prefer WordPerfect. Caveat: my sample is small and nonrandom. WordPerfect Inc. probably is better at writing OS-independent programs especially programs for multitaslking systems. The first version of WordPerfect ran on a Data General machine! I won't say *anything* about MS in this context.
