There seem to be a fair number of souls who don't have a working set of the ZCOMM files for the usual reasons. The ZCOMM files live on TeleGodzilla, and are available on Compuserve, GEnie, and more than 200 other bulletin boards. No registration is required to access TeleGodzilla, just a dime to Telco. To download them from TeleGodzilla, first get ZCOMMEXE.ARC. If your current comms program has a weak XMODEM, you might try Kermit which is generally slower but more reliable. If you have a TrailBlazer, set your S50 register to 255 and let her rip at 19200 bps. ZCOMMEXE.ARC contains the ZCOMM program, which may then be used to download the rest of the files more efficiently (hence, cheaply). This is important if your phone lines aren't the best, as ZCOMM's ZMODEM is more reliable than most other protocols. To top it off, you can resume/recover the transfer if the modems drop off in the middle of a file. The other two files are ZCOMMHLP.ARC and ZCOMMDOC.ARC. The first contains a "flash-up" help processor and tree/menu structured database. ZCOMMDOC.ARC is the infamous line printer edition of the manual. Now that there is a moderator for comp.binaries.ibm.pc there may be some archive sites available soon. Before the ZCOMM files are broadcast on the net again, perhaps we should make suitable adjustments to increase the chances of a successful dissemination.
