This problem is not a hardware problem from the binhex file or a hardware problem from Stuffit 1.40A, it seems to be a software problem from Stuffit. This made me not use stuffit until I heard from other people on the net. I decided to test its archiving as well, and I discovered that if you try and archive a large file/application (~18000 bytes) stuffit again gives you the dreaded disk problem (-39). I will now refrain from using Stuffit 1.40A and still use Stuffit 1.31 until I hear something from someone else.
