I don't know if this helps, but it does adress
your problem. In 'Software Praxis and Experience'(a monthly
magazine) Vol.18(1), January 1988 authors Alfred V. Aho and Ravi Sethi
describe a suite of shell scripts which they call
a reference assembler.It works with
any formatter. You should really loke into it.
