I have just completed compiling X11R2 on our network of Sun Workstations, and I must say I am impressed. Finally a window manager that allows the user to make the decisions, not the other way around. I have a couple hundred questions, but I will limit this first posting to but a few. 1. I have gleaned the meanings of the arcane .Xdefaults file, but I need to start up some goodies automagically on the desktop. My startX script does not seem to be the proper place for this owing to the fact that I have to sleep for a period of time to wait for the server to awaken. Is there a better way to handle this? (I have read references to a file called ".Xdesk", but so far have not been able to make X realize that it exists.) 2. We have a big graphics project that we wish to deliver using X11R2 as it's vehicle. So far, reading the examples, (even those that compile correctly, ), has been of minimal help. It there a prototypical X application that people would recommend studying? Even better, is there a "generic framework" available for a simple app? One with copious comments would do just fine. Thanks much beforehand for any help. If you would rather, please feel free to mail me directly and I will do my best to abstract comments received to the net. R.
