Got it in one! But I did recognize that news and mail go hand in hand. Giving someone the ability to send mail doesn't give them any reason to use electroninic mail unless they have someone to talk to. Giving them news is fun, but less so if they can't participate; so email is useful. I've noticed a definite correlation of mail use to Usenet participation for most pc users.
