Keywords: token-ring ethernet pc Message-ID: <687@cunixc.columbia.edu> Date: 23 May 88 13:48:08 GMT Reply-To: alan@cunixc.columbia.edu (Alan Crosswell) Organization: Columbia University Lines: 21 I've been looking to purchase a transportable PC to use for a portable network monitoring/debugging tool. For this reason, the PC must have two full-size slots to accomodate an IBM Token Ring Trace and Performance Adapter and some brand of Ethernet adapter. The software I want to run on it is MIT PC/IP and derivates (IBM TCP/IP for the PS/2, FTP Software, etc.), IBM Token-Ring Network Trace and Performance Program, and IBM LAN Manager. After talking to some people and looking through PC Magazine Vol 7 No 6 ("Power to Go" issue), I've come to the conclusion that a good choice would be the Dolch 286 or 386. In the past, I would have chosen the Compaq, but they don't have slots since changing to the "lunchbox" style -- just an expansion box. Any comments from people doing similar things with a Dolch or other brand or who have used a Dolch with any of the network cards and software I listed would be greatly appreciated.
