Waltham, Mass. Lines: 35 While I have seen some individuals complain about their site carrying binaries (mainly because said postings are of no use to THEM), I have not seen complaints from any site admins about the cost. While there was a lot of traffic of late on comp.binaries.ibm.pc, a large part of it was a discussion on whether to become moderated (and flames about all this talk belonging in c.b.i.p.d). Now that c.b.i.p is moderated, the abuse that took place (330K commercial posting) can not be repeated. There are a LOT of users on the net that have some form of PC in addition to whatever system(s) they use that are on the net. Giving this large population some of the net's bandwidth for sharing and exchanging software seems both fair and appropriate. Since a large percentage of these users would be cut off by a move of c.b.i.p to the alts distribution (since it is cut off upstream from their site), relocating this group seems very inappropriate. Everyone has their list of groups that they can find no use for. That doesn't mean that they should start clogging the net with their flames about these groups being allowed to exist (followed by their magnanimous offers of allowing them continued life in Siberia if they are "good")! If the net community wants to insist that all binaries groups be moderated, that is a reasonable limit. To insist that these groups disappear is not. Simcha Lerner ...talcott!humming!simcha
