I have two comments to this. First, is there a software license on your product? If so, it probably says something along the lines of "Permission has been granted by [insert company name here] for the use of [program or package name here] on one computer. [insert company name here] retains ownership of this program." If so, it's not really the user's software is it? You're protecting your own software. (This is really just a technicality, but it does pop up with virtually every software package I've seen.)
