Daniel,
What you need is the appropriate SCRIPT INTERFACE SYSTEM.  I believe
Apple writes these scripts, however, only supplies the ROMAN Interface
System as the default script.

The MAC`s Script Manager uses the Script Interface System to provide you
with what you are looking for.

I`d like to refer you to Chapter 15 of `Inside Macintosh, Volume 5` for
more information on the subject.

The APDA sells several packages which might help you with what you need.
