(Thank you...I feel better now) Here's the latest on getting a Telebit Trailblazer working as a shared modem under Ultrix 2.2. After talking (a lot!) to Atlanta Customer Support they recommended that I create an entry in the /etc/acucap file and use the generic dial routines. (Previously I had the line set as a direct line and did the dialing myself in the L.sys file). It didn't take too long to get the generic dialer working...almost. I could connect to one site with the Telebit, but when I tried to call Uunet, the dialer dropped DTR just as the modem was about to link up. It turns out that Uunet has their Telebits set up to give the PEP (fast mode) tones last (S92=1), and the other site I was calling had them first (S92=0). Because of the extra delay going through the V.22 bis/212A tones, the dialer was timing out before the modem got a carrier. No problem (I thought). I'll just increase the timout in the acucap entry. There it is, the FD entry. Unfortunately, no matter how large I made the FD entry, the connection still timed out after about 30 seconds. If I made the FD *smaller* than 30 seconds it would time out ealier, but I couldn't get it longer than 30 seconds. After more talking with Atlanta we figured out what was happening. The DHU driver will timout after 30 seconds if the carrier does not show up. All I have to do is find this timout and increase it. Unfortunately, we don't have sources. Is there anyone with Ultrix sources that would be willing to work with me over the phone on finding where to patch the DHU driver? My dime of course! I don't know VAX assembler so digging through the DHU driver with ADB isn't helping much. If you're willing, give me a call at the number listed below. Anyway, for what it's worth, here is my current /etc/acucap entry for the telebit and the L.sys file entry. This will work if the modem you call has S92=0, or if your phone system is a bit faster than ours. /etc/acucap entry: ================== telebit|trailblazer|Telebit Trailblazer (UNSUPPORTED):\ :cr:ss=A\dA\dATQE1S50=255\r\d:sr=OK:di=ATDT:dt=\r:\ :db:cd#0:dd#0:sd#0:da#1:fd#55:rs=,:os=CONNECT: L.sys entry: ============ uunet Any ACU 9600 9,17032760440,43377 CONNECT \d\d\r \ ogin:--ogin: MYLOGIN ssword: MYPASSWORD One other question. Does anyone know how to get UUCP to use 19200 baud? Tip can go to 19200 but when I put 19200 in the L.sys file uucico complains. -- David Schmidt UUCP: davids@iscuva.ISCS.COM ISC Systems Corporation (uunet!iscuva!davids) East 22425 Appleway Phone: +1 509 927-5479 Liberty Lake, WA 99019
