   I'm posting this to unix.wizards since I received no responses to an 
earlier posting to unix.questions.

   I'm trying to define some filter rules using elm, and having
some difficulty.  I'm running Elm 1.5b under version 2.0 of Gould's
UTX OS.

   I've defined a very simple rule, and tested it interactively (by
piping the output of readmsg into the filter program) and the desired
action is performed.  Unfortunately, when I create a ~/.forward file
with any of the following in it, all of my mail is discarded, and no
filter errors are reported.

   |filter
   "|filter"
   "|filter >> /u7/gregg/.filter_errors 2>&1"

   Any ideas regarding what I'm doing wrong, or why this is not 
working?  Please e-mail responses to me, and I will summarize the
answers to the net if I get more than a couple of queries asking 
for a copy.
