Summary: I have a similar but nastier problem

I have a 500 + 1084. Every once in a while, the display seems to use the
same data for two scan lines. A colon will look like a | with a small
hole in the middle. This is too transient to figure out what is going on.
But occurs at least once every time I turn the machine on.
