Has anyone ever heard of the art of "Asking"?

lenny didn't explain why he couldn't give it out, and whatever those
reasons are, I am sure they are quite valid and legitimate.  But no
matter what the rationale is, he requested assistance from the net.  

Lenny is a person who has assisted an unknown number of people with
their UnixPCs, posted several utilities and is one of the rare people
who makes an effort to make new information known and avaialable.  A
quality a lot of people don't necessarily have.

Perhaps lenny should have explained initially why he cannot give it
out.  But, in any case, he certainly hasn't deserved any of the
ridiculous cocky replies he has been receiving.  He is not trying to
"impress" you or anyone else with his knowledge or what he has.  On
the contrary, he is seeking assistance to supplement his knowledge or
what he has.  He has received quite a poor return lately on the
efforts he has provided to help others.


Can we use some other examples?  People are rather tolerant of UnixPC
HoneyDanBer questions, even though that also cannot be "given out".
Why are they tolerant?  Perhaps because it can be applied to other
machines running HDB, and of course, ATT has insinuated for a long
time that HDB will eventually just be made avaialable, but unsupported
for the UnixPC, so maybe the information will be useful in the future
even if it isn't today.

The general information that resulted from the original discussion has
been rather interesting and useful.  Documented was a procedure for
how to perform an upgrade with >1024 cylinders, where you can locate a
diagnostics disk to perform it, and difficulties encountered complete
with solutions to those difficulties.  The resulting _good_
information could be immensely valuable to someone, either today or in
the future.  So the result was all around very valuable.


Is this a flame? No not really.  If you feel it is one, then feel free
to reply to me via email.  I'll be happy to discuss this further
there, but it doesn't belong on the net.
