Lines: 33 O.K., I'm in a rowdy mood, so I think I'll start a debate here. Gotta liven up this newsgroup a bit while we're waiting for the vote tally :-) I've got an issue with the use of the crypt() routines in Elm. These routines are not available to anyone outside of the United States. Now, I don't know about anyone else, but I've got several international offices that do / want to use Elm. My suggestion is that we replace the crypt() calls with a public domain routine. It won't be compatible with the crypt() routine, but I don't think that that will really be an issue. Actually, I was reminded of this by Robert Claeson at PVAB in Sweden. He has generously volenteered to supply public domain DES and enigma functions which we could utilize. This should be done before an offical 2.0 release. We don't really want to have 2 incompatible encryption routines in Elm. Yes, I know the 2.0 gamma is out there using crypt(). But does this "renegade", as Dave calls it, software really count? I would assume that everybody would upgrade to the official release when it comes out. Any anyone who doesn't...... well, what can I say. They're on their own. Comments? Flames? -- +-------------------------+---------------------------------------------------+ | Eric D.
