Many domestic sites, including those running Micrport SysV/[AT/386] and Xenix, don't have crypt on their systems unless they have specifically requested it from the supplier. There was a PD crypt clone posted to alt.sources a few weeks ago which might be adaptable and built into ELM - or perhaps it will be sufficient to use some sort of elementary encoding feature a la rot13. In any event ELM should NOT contain such an obvious system dependency.
