Before leaving for USENIX, the backbone managed to get together on
another decision (things are already running much smoother now that
there is an official backbone announcer).  So, please take note:

    Recent attempts to merge BSD with SystemV into somekind of 
    homogenized ``standard'' UNIX have lead the backbone to 
    realize that UNIX as an interesting operating system is now
    for all intents and purposes dead.  Upon advisement from
    the official backbone mail leaker, we have decided to replace
    UNIX with HYPERCARD.  A new release of the news software (version
    D or VD for short) will be distributed soon that runs under
    HYPERCARD.  All sysadmins are requested to upgrade their systems
    from UNIX to HYPERCARD to maintain the connectivity of the net.
    To encourage this move, a set of rmgroup messages to delete
    the comp.unix.* groups will be issued shortly.  The HYPERCARD
    interface is so user-friendly that we do not anticipate needing
    to create a comp.hypercard.* hierachy. Thank you for your help.
