as I cannot currently read any news !

We are looking for a way to get some kind of job control (a la
4.n BSD) under System V. 

It should preferably be obtainable without a source licence and of
the easy/devastatingly simple variety.

If you have just been discussing the impossibilities of such on the
Net then please forgive me: I have not had access for years, and I still
am unable to read the news. I can however send and receive mail at the above
address.
