You can ftp to tumtum.cs.umd.edu, user anonymous, password anything, and use binary (if you're getting any compressed files), or hash (if you have a slow net connection and want to pass the time away). Sun also has an archive of free NeWS software, that you retrieve by email. Send a message to "news-archive@sun.com" (or ...!sun!news-archive), saying "help", and you'll get the instructions.
