It's worked satisfactorily for a couple of weeks now. More comments: The 2400bps external version is now $149, down from the earlier $159 (Internal version is less.) The MNP level-4 (2400bps ext.) version is currently $229. (I don't know about the 4800bps units.) A male-to-female rs232 cable is needed; Comark will sell you one for $12. Features: "fully compatible" with Hayes AT commands & register set. Bell 103/212, CCIT V.22/V.22bis internal speaker with software volume control line jack and phone jack on unit external power supply lotsa "Power-On" LEDs, labelled HS,AA,RI,OH,CD,TD,RD,RTS,CTS,DTR,DSR and they blink engagingly when I type (:-) :-) :-) some sort of terminal emulator for MS-DOS -- seems to work, ohboy... company spells "compatible" correctly Massive heat sink on a power transistor inside. Leaving clearance for this sink seems to account for most of the external's size Overall, I'm happy (==satisfied) with it, enough that I'm about ready to sell my old reliable USR Password finally. I kind of wish I'd gotten the MNP version; I heard a rumor that you can upgrade to this, but the manual says nothing about this. In contrast, it does make passing mention of an upgrade to 4800bps. I had to ask them for a warranty card, which wasn't packed (and which I haven't sent back in yet, now that I think of it...) -- bob,mon (bobmon@iuvax.cs.indiana.edu) "`This must be deep' means `I can recognize all these words individually, but dam' if I can make any sense out of the order in which they currently appear....'" - Gil Scott Herron
