Summary: Some comments, two questions. Keywords: NEC LC-890 three-dots corona-wire toner-life serial-problems Message-ID: <247@oha.UUCP> Date: 2 Jul 88 00:13:33 GMT Organization: Olekshy Hoover & Associates Ltd., Edmonton,Alberta,Canada Lines: 41 My 2c^H/ worth. We have used the 890 since December and I find it to be an exceptional printer. It reminds me, in appearance, of a wringer-washer, but it seems to be built like a brick outhouse. There is a minor problem with three 1-pixel dots in the upper-right corner of the first page of each job that is supposed to be fixed by a ROM upgrade from your support person. Has anyone else experienced/solved this? You also need to periodically clean the corona wire and its holder, which is not documented, but our service tech was very careful to show us how to do it. The (steel?) paper-separator wires plate out on the (copper?) corona wire and you get narrow vertical stripe areas where the toner is not pulled off the drum because the plating messes up the field. The top edge of the corona-wire box seems to collect some stray toner that will smudge on the page if it builds up. I estimate that it needs to be cleaned about every 2000 pages (based on results so far, ie, twice). A few seconds with a cotton swab and alcohol is all it takes. I noticed that some writers have commented on the first toner cartridge replacement at 2500 pages, which also happened to us. I'm only at 4000 pages now, but I would like to know when the next replacement occurs: at 5000 or at 7500. If the latter, I would postulate that about half the toner in the first cartridge went into filling the nooks and crannies of the toner mechanism. Now here is my only unsolved problem (besides the three dots). I am currently running at 2400bps due to (I think) this problem. At higher speed the reading process misses the End-Of-Job message and lp hangs. Is this a warranty repair from NEC?
