Please help a fellow Amigan avoid a bad investment!

I have an elderly 1000 with an elderly 2M memory expansion, 
the Escort 2 from Expansion Technologies.  When I decided it
was probably time to get a hard disk I discovered that ET sells
hard disks and controllers, and that the controllers fit the 
Escort 2 box.  Sounds like a good choice for me since it should
avoid any manufacturer incompatibilities.

But, before I sink around $1K into a 40M hard disk, etc., please
tell me of any experiences (good or bad) you've had with Escort 2
hard disks.  Or anything else you think I need to know about hard disks.
