Probably impossible... The 1.2M mode on PC floppies is clocked at the same rate as used in 8" drives (in fact, 1.2M drives have been used by the CP/M crowd to replace 8" units). Unless there is a way to make an Amiga clock data 2X faster, I don't any way of getting this to work. However, it should be fairly easy to hook up a 96 tpi (80 track) drive to give you 800K on 51/4" disks. Dave P.S. One of the early issues of Amazing had details on how to hook this up. Also, I think that the 1.2Meg Drives can be used the same as a standard 96 tpi drive by asserting the density select signal in an appropriate fashion.
