I need information concerning how to send a postscript file from a Macintosh to an Apple laserwriter. Please excuse what may seem like such a simple question, but I am a DOS hack who only uses the Macintoshes in the office very rarely. We are using System 4.2 and Finder 6.0. The current method is as follows: 1. Produce postscript files (using sqtroff) on our Unix machine. 2. Make sure no one else in the office is printing on the laserwriter. 3. Turn off laserwriter, switch from appletalk to serial 9600 baud. 4. Cat postscript file to /dev/lp. 5. Turn off laserwriter, switch back to appletalk. What I want to do is: 1. Login to Unix machine on Mac using VersaTerm (which we have). 2. Upload file from Unix machine to Mac (i.e. using Xmodem). 3. Print file. 4. Logoff. No more turning machine on and off, getting Mac users mad at me etc. My only problem is with step 3. On Unix or DOS, I just: cat postscriptfile > device Pronto! File is printed. I have realized that things may not be so simple with the Mac operating system. Does anyone have a PD utility with will allow me to send a text postscript file to the laserwriter? Thanks much in advance. P.S. Please reply by e-mail, as I do not read this group. ------- Graham Wilson | watmath allegra decvax CyberFluor Inc | | | | 179 John St, #400 | uunet!utai!utgpu!utzoo!sickkids!gw Toronto, Ont, M5T 1X4 | | | (416) 977-5450 | ubc-vision linus
