APDA offers the "Asynch LaserWriter Driver", which I believe will do what you want (i.e., hang the LaserWriter off the printer/serial port as if it were an Imagewriter). Whether it is completely compatible with stuff like PageMaker (that has its own prep file) is not clear. Also whether Apple will support it more than 6 months into the future.
