It seems that at any given moment about 50% of the Macs in the labs here have blinking apples. It can be confusing, since the system floppy currently in use may not have the Alarm Clock DA on it, and therefore can't turn the alarm off (the clock settings are held in the battery-backed parameter RAM and stay in effect until changed).
