Surprisingly an Atari ST does the job! Buy one,  get Uniterm 2.0d
and you have all these fancy thingies like ^S,^Q  and meta key in
conjunction with an  vt200 emulation. Don't  know why this works,
but it works fine. I am using it at the moment.
