Why reinvent the wheel? Rahul Dhesi's ZOO is public domain, and sources are available for Unix/MSDOS/Amiga/VMS and probably others. It uses 13-bit LZW (same as PKARC's "squashing") and its speed is much closer to PKARC than SEA ARC.
